If Europe were actively engaged in a CDMA air interface overlay of GSM, the Qualcomm thread would have exploded in delirium, I'd be retired, and Irwin Jacobs and Harvey White would be in orbit sans rockets. The air interface experimental trials with Vodaphone did in fact go off without a hitch and the technology is on the shelf awaiting commercial implementation. But fortress Europe hasn't keeled over yet and I dare say won't until Ericsson et. al. is dragged kicking and screaming off their GSM perch. Do however hold that thought, cuz it looks like a pretty damn good bet. The cake however is not yet baked. Regards, Mike Doyle
