Mark, The biggest problem is new designs have less and less gold as they figure out how to get it out. The early GE mainframe boards were worth over $100 per lb as each chip used gold interconnect wires and gold epoxy paste for heat conduction. Now aluminum and copper are pushing out gold in mundane apps. Supers still use gold in significant amounts.
