REDMOND, Wash. (Reuters) - Microsoft Corp. earnings rose 28
percent in the latest quarter, beating analyst expectations, as its results
were boosted by strong early sales of Windows 98, the software giant
said Thursday.

Microsoft said it earned $1.36 billion, or 50 cents per diluted share in its
fiscal fourth quarter, compared with $1.06 billion or 40 cents per share
a year earlier. Analysts had predicted earnings of 48 cents per share on
average, according to First Call.
