quote.com after hour quotes are full of sh*t for NAS stocks. I've see quotes 2 points higher than close on no news and then the second everything was normal. It may be good for NYSE stock though, but again, you can get it from yahoo, and almost any site.

Some Perspective

MSFT is currently showing $13.9 billion in cash on their balance sheet. To give some perspective on what that means, consider that for all of 1997, only the top 98 companies on the Fortune 500 list did more than $13.9 billion in sales. MSFT's current on-hand cash is larger than last year's revenues for household names like Delta Air Lines, Time Warner, Goodyear Tire, and some 400 other Fortune 500 names.

Perhaps that helps explain why MSFT is so highly valued.

Big buys in after-hour trading and price was pushed up to 117 3/8--higher than
Thursday's closing.

The link you gave gave the 4pm price not after hours. So far the info I have is that it was off 1 in after hours.

Unearned Revenue

Microsoft believes that Internet technologies are integral to its products and has committed to integrating
these technologies, such as its browser software, Microsoft Internet Explorer, into existing products at no
additional cost to its customers. Given this strategy and other commitments such as telephone support,
Internet-based technical support, and unspecified product enhancements, Microsoft recognizes
approximately 20% of Windows operating systems OEM revenue and approximately 35% of retail
versions revenue over the product life cycles, currently estimated at two years.
The unearned portion of
revenue from Windows operating systems was $1.19 billion at June 30, 1998.

Since Office 97 is also designed to be tightly integrated with the Internet, and in the view of subsequent
delivery of new Internet technologies, enhancements, and other support, a ratable revenue recognition
policy became effective for Office 97 licenses in the third quarter of fiscal 1997. Approximately 20% of
Office 97 revenue is recognized ratably over the estimated 18-month product life cycle. Unearned
revenue associated with Office 97 totaled $770 million at June 30, 1998.

Unearned revenue also includes maintenance and other subscription contracts, including custom
enterprise and other organization license agreements.
