Cathy,
Thank you for your insight. It is greatly appreciated.
"Market Makers" are houses that trade for their own accounts so as to insure that their clients DO get fair treatment. Any brokerage house that buys for their in house accounts are called "market makers" and there are market makers for WT. I mentioned four in a previous response...three by name.
But you are correct! There is a great deal of emphasis by the exchanges themselves to insure fair execution of trades.
I don't know if any traders tried to dip the stock...buying for their own accounts on this particular trade.
With lulls in the trading of a stock it is possible for a trader to dip the stock when he/she doesn't have a clients order to fill at a given moment.
At any rate, I hope I didn't mislead anyone!
Please let me know if you still disagree with me. These are the type of discussions which I feel can be of help to "non-professionals" who want to understand how markets work for or against them so that they CAN protect themselves. ( I was hoping to show that when someone is trying to protect themselves by placing a stop limit order, it doesn't always accomplish what you had hoped. )
Dipping a stock is not fair because I believe that it is a form of market manipulation even if it is an execution of a clients order. It skirts the spirit of the clients wishes while still adhering to the letter of the law.
Thanks again! It's nice to have you on this thread!
Best Regards,
Bruce
