Mitzi, Let me give you a quick course to get you up to speed with the chemistry we are talking about here. Resin columns have an afinity for certaint ions at certain Ph. Usually, collection occurs at an acid Ph and elution happens at basic Ph. One can collect the goodies and then sacrifice the resin, or it can be eluded at basic Ph. The eluded product is then marketed. The resin then is ready for further collection, and may be eluded numerous times, but has a definite life span, somewhat like the cartrige in your printer, it has a definite lifespan.
