Thought of more bad Rumors stuff...

The complete and 100% miss on the iMac.

Another time, in a mailing list, someone on the Rumors staff started to take part. Much of the list was made up of old NeXTies, and they let the guy know what they thought of the site. At one point the Rumors person admitted to using Rhapsody DR1 as part of his defense that he wasn't as much of a clueless moron as he came across as being. The only way he could do that is by using it illegally, or by signing an NDA. Since many of us were programmers that follow our NDAs for the protection of Apple we pointed it out to him. He then backtracked, saying they never ran it, don't have it in their offices, and then was no longer heard from again. :-)

Robert-you are totally correct about Mac OS Rumors. I read them for entertainment value and fun. I like to fantasize that some of their rumors will come true.... however it would be foolish for any investor to be influenced financially over their words.

"Personally, I'd rather have an inkling of things to come, and I consider MacOS Rumors and other quality rumor sites a valuable resource."

God. Don't! The things I know about, programming/engineering issues, Rumors has been laughably off on. I can't imagine how they do on things I have no idea about. I've been with Apple Engineers as they gleefully pour over the Rumors site laughing their asses off! I've interracted with people here that have fed Rumors bad rumors just for kicks. If you listen to Rumors, and worse yet, base decisions off of it, you'll get screwed.

I never meant to suggest I base decisions on the rumors, and certainly not investment ones. As for planting intentional sees of rumors, that is to be expected. However, if you're in the business of publishing rumor info, then you have your trusted sources, sources that may become trusted, and the wackos. Their validity, of course, depends on how many of their rumors actually come to pass. You toss out all the other ones as unproven until they are.

As for rumors they've published that came to pass, it's a bit difficult to separate what was theirs from Mac the Knife, Reality, Don Crabb, Apple Recon and others in my memory. However, I believe I first read about death of the Newton/eMate, the G3 PowerBook announcement date, the education Apple Online store open date, PowerBook G3 specs, and the Claris reorganization there, among others.
