Seagate considers cutting number of suppliers in Singapore

SINGAPORE (AFX-ASIA) - Seagate Technology is considering to cut the
number of its suppliers in Singapore to keep its costs down, the Business

Watkins said Seagate is no longer retrenching people after having laid
off 1,800 local employees in January.
"We've been seeing moderate growth in volume shipments and I think we'll
continue to see that," he said.
Seagate shipped 6.8 mln disk drives in the quarter to June, down 6.0 pct
from a year earlier.
Sales of high-end disk drives rose 8.80 pct year-on-year to 856 mln usd
in the quarter to June, while sales of low-end disk drives were down 22.0 pct
year-on-year to 552 mln usd.
