I think the Permedia 3 is better than the RIVA TNT but these are not
the main threats. The main threats are the chip set makers that
will incorporate graphics capabilities in their chip sets.
SIS has done it, Intel and NSM are working on it for Low cost PCs.

>>> 1) How much better is the RIVA TNT? Is this the main threat?
2) Does anyone have a clue if and when Diamond and STB will qualify their Savage3D based products at the key OEMs like Dell and CPQ? <<<

Mike,
NVIDIA RIVA TNT is not the main treat. This product will be for
high end systems. S3 will have to get this product into mainstream
system ($1000 - $2000) in order to be successful. The first possible
OEM design would be Q199. Christmas designs are frozen. S3
may announce the design win or 2 this year but shipments would
be in 1999. JMHO
