To value Intel it would be mildly instructive. Intel's valuation over the long run is based on the present value of its future cash flows, not its competitors. AMD and National have to go out of business to boost Intel's earnings growth prospects. Until then, if you are an investor relatively new to Intel, not a former employee with a sub-$1 basis, it is necessary to value Intel on its performance and not the weakness of competitors.

I hope this sounds rational.

Edit: I'd like to add that a change in the demand side of the x86 equation would be more meaningful to all the x86 suppliers, than the status of the competition between them. For the sake of all my tech holdings, I hope there is an Asian recovery soon, because that's what we need more than anything.
