The Securities Industry Automation Corp., the communications and
transaction-processing arm of the NYSE, announced today it has selected Bay to
provide a
multiservice Layer 3 network that can handle IP applications such as voice and video.
Future additions to the network could include digital voice capture and

related to this, some quick anlysis of mkt space:

LAN switch mkt - COMS and BAY with new products, COMS corebuilder
won overall independence performance test; many prominent GB startups

WAN switch mkt - asnd (CSCC) with 550 and FORE with 4000 , both new products with many large customers wins,seems that 550 has been extremely well accepted by SPs, RBOCs, and large ISPs; and 4000 very well accepted by large Enterprises (such as Microsoft)

Access mkt - Lucent with their new portmaster 4 product, NT with their newly
acquired Aptis product; both already won a number of customers;
small vendors - ACC with their Tigris and with NewBridge backing had won some
customers

Router mkt - last 3 qtrs growth was flat and compounding to that with many IP
route/switch vendors such as Juniper targeting to get a foot-hold

It seems that real significant competitions are now in all these key mkt segments
