Mr. Green, SelectNet, SOES and SuperDot are mechanisms to route orders and executions to and from the exchanges. SelectNet and SOES are Nasdaq's systems for order routing between market makers, investors, and traders. SuperDot is an order routing system for the listed exchanges. "Dot" in SuperDot stands for Designated Order Turnaround.

Island (ISLD) is an ECN, which allows investors and traders to post bids and offers in the market just as GSCO, MLCO, HRZG, or any other market maker might. In essence, an investor/trader can use ISLD to "play market maker."

SOES is a way for retail investors and non-professional traders to execute mandatory trades against market makers posting bids and offers at the inside quote. As of tomorrow (7/20/98), market makers will only be obligated to honor 100 shares at the inside quote (per the SEC). Previous to this new ruling, market makers were obligated to honor up to a maximum of 1000 shares at the inside quote.
