I have been lurking on this thread for some time now, and I'd like to introduce myself. I am long on CUBE, having first bought at 38, then at 32, 26, 22 and 18. My average cost is around $25. I originally bought based on the potential of DVD. As per yesterday's discussions, with 60% of earnings from Divi, it is clear that DVD is a small and unpredictable piece of the pie.
For DVD to take off, 3 things need to happen:
1) DVD must become a household word. I recently spoke to a very bright person who is an audiophile, and a videophile with a large library of laser discs. He didn't know what DVD was.
2) DVD needs to be able to replace VCR's, and currently it can't. 2 months ago we had a child, and we wanted to transfer our 8mm camcorder video onto VHS to send to relatives. My son crammed paper clips in the drive, so it chewed tapes. I instantly plunked down $250 for a new VCR with audio and video jacks on the front so I could complete my project. We also tape shows regularly so we can watch them in the evening. VHS enables us to do that. Recordable DVD's need to become the standard.
3) They need to be priced so everyone can afford them. I own CUBE, but still haven't bought a DVD player. In a pinch, I bought a new VCR on the spot.
When will this time come? I don't know, but maybe this Christmas season will help. Thanks to Rieman, Nadalin, and others for their insightful info!

The sell signal is there. The trend is down. You knew all along what would happen the day after earnings...
