Agree completely. What has struck me again and again are statements in the media about Amazon's "technology" and keen awareness of the internet market. The editors should be embarrases by such irresponsible reporting. They will be when Amazon crashes. Amazon undoubtedly has developed their internet server software to be highly capable. I have talked with some of the people at the firm that helped develop the initial site and continue to work as consultants. But there is no proprietary technology that is either available off the shelf or can be written easily. Amazon has a lead on the competition but not by that much. The larger and more agile competitors will bare down on them from many sides while the more agile and prolific small companies will operate at much lower margins and beat them in price - any day of the week.

Amazon.com has some great spirited people behind it. The potential of the internet is stupendous and marvelous. But, IMO, the marvel of the internet is in that it empowers the individual and forces a flattening of the marketplace and corporate structure. Power to the people! But amazon masquerades as the benevolent partner while its plan is to become the Big Blue meanie of the internet. Screw the investors and the employees to the good of the corporate mother (insiders)!

What is the vision held by amazonianuts for the future of the internet? Is it a big brother corporate monstrosity that controls a large portion of commerce? It must be because that is the only vision that would lead to the valuation road map that Amazon is now attracting.
