Re: Takeover discussion . . .

As you probably remember, I kicked up some dust a couple of months ago with speculation over the possibility of TRW taking over IDX. Part of what grabbed attention was my guessing at a takeover price above $20.

Two points: First, that number was based on a takeover towards the end of the year (TRW has indicated it is not prepared to move before the fall), when IDX would have a chance to show a blowout quarter. Second, IDX stock was trading a little higher then.

IDX as a takeover candidate could be had most cheaply if the acquirer acted very fast. Then, I suppose it could go for $15-$18. If Lockheed wants to make a move on IDX -- and I have no reason to think they will -- that could force TRW to consider bidding against them. Probably, Lockheed wins a bidding war against a fairly weakened TRW. An early bidding war over IDX could push the stock takeover price in the neighborhood of $20 or a little more.

These are all uninformed, personal guesses, by the way, and simply published for fun.

Marvin,

Lockheed and NEC Technologies signed a partnering deal a few months back.

Lockheed also built the National crime computer afis.
