Samir,
My impression is that you simply do not understand what is being said. I think it says:

CCI sold 1 million CDs last year (simple enough).

CCI has 1.5 million customers (simple enough - at some point, CCI has dealt with 1.5 million individual customers, but obviously everyone did not buy a CD from CCI last year)

CCI has a retention rate of greater than 80% (again, simple enough - of the people who buy from CCI, over 80% buy again from CCI at some point [I assume that is what is meant by retention rate - correct me if I am wrong])

Perhaps you should explain more clearly why you think "this does not compute?" The only reason I can think of is because you are assuming all 1.5 million customers should have bought a CD last year. Is that the cause of your misunderstanding?

I hope this helps.

<<< actually that is another thing i don't understand...
they say they have 1.5 million customers but only sold 1 million cd's last year and
claim they have over 80% retention rate
this does not compute
