Les,
Dell has strategic (hard to copy) operating model of selling direct (no resellers), which results in fewer inventories in the channel (very efficient), more customization for customers, getting latest technologies to customers faster, etc. It's worked well so far and should continue at least in the near future...thus, the high PE.

That is correct.

However, Dell is growing earnings at about 63% year-to-year and revenue 52% - as per their last quarterly report.

This is 3 or 4 times the industry average.

Picture Compaq's last two quarterly reports - Almost ZERO earnings.

I'm not knocking Compaq, but pointing out the facts.
