How are the rebates that were in effect this quarter
expensed? Are they a part of this quarter's expenses or will they be accounted for as
they are paid out?

During the CC, they said that they accrued some amount for the rebates that were offered that qtr. I forget the number. Its in the fool report. You will look in the Account Payable section in the Balance sheet. Also might be some mention as a separate item. Its not booked into revenue figures yet, as the cash has not been paid out yet.

However, If the accounting is conservative (unclear), the gross margin may already reflect the lower selling price or the higher cost.

For example, the rebates for the gigapak zip disks that "flew off" the IM shelves, will either have a higher cost or lower sales price on the revenue statement, and you should see an entry in Account Payable to account for the rebate liability.
