Patrick,

No chance for gsm or playstion2 this year. Probably spring / summer 99 is my guess. Playstation 2 will not be a 64 bit system, but it will be dvd based. i am still hoping that Montgomery is wrong about the mpu design win going to toshiba. If lsi can keep that part PLUS the dvd controller then filling Gresham stage 1 will be easy. However, LSI will have to talk about it in no uncertain terms in order for some of the fear around that startup to be alleviated. My guess is the call will be long on promise and short on delivery yet again, so some specificity is required if they want to keep the price in this range. They haven't shown that they think too much about shareholders interests yet, but I am hoping the 23rd will be the beginning of a change.

On the other hand, their networking stuff hopefully should start recovering in the second half.

Patrick: Clearly you are not familiar with LSI's business. Their networking this quarter has been excellent, and it will continue to be that way. However, I understand your frustration. As my SI profile indicates, I just joined SI on February 2 of this year. I joined subsequent to making a rather large purchase of LSI in late January. I had also considered IDTI, which was an SDRAM company that was and is attempting to become a logic company, which will compete with LSI. After having evaluated the two, I decided to buy LSI. What won me over was one person--the true gentleman and singular genius of this board--Shane Forbes. I can honestly say I joined SI just to talk to Shane, and notwithstanding his and my disappearances, it has been a rewarding experience. In that sense, I was lucky, because I would have had my head handed to me if I had bought IDTI, since as the accompanying chart indicates IDTI has gone in the toilet. If I had bought IDTI then, I might have been lashing out at everybody and everything--including LSI and its management team over my frustration over IDTI's performance.

I am really glad that I listened to Shane's careful analysis, rather than the hype on the IDTI thread.
