Joey - Re: "700-MHz, integrated Pentium IIs for 1999 "

Great post !

Intel is accelerating their technology roadmap.

By the way - the DIXON - a Pentium II with 256 K L2 cache - is just about one week old.

First silicon check out shows the part to be essentially fully functional.

So Intel will have 6 months to get this ready for market!

Look for Intel to use this as a "strategic weapon" against AMD's K6-3.

Joey,

Sounds like Intel is using the basic Good - Better - Best marketing strategy, with clean and distinct brands:

Xeon - Best
Pentium II - Better
Celeron - Good

I have been critical of Intel's branding/price/performance matrix in the past, but this looks like a clearer, more consumer friendly strategy.

With the introduction of Merced, I'm guessing the Xeon will make it's way to the desktop. What do you think?
