The main reason for the volume of complaints is that Datek has performed well in the past, and hence attracted a customer base with high expectations. It's the variation in performance that causes complaints, not the absolute level of performance. If Datek goes bad and stays bad, eventually complaints will cease as the complainers take their business elsewhere.

My hope is to understanding these things . . . and that someone on this thread might have some answers, so that together we can make better informed decisions! You know, the whole community thing.

Craig, I've been an investor for many years. I'm interested in learning to be a better trader. I know I have two strikes against me already. That's why I don't won't to seal my fate with a third!

I think it is important to understand the nature of the business relationship I'm entering into with a company like Datek! For example, how do they make money from our relationship? What are their financial incentives that might account for how they do business? And, how do their systems operate?

My hope is that by understanding these things, I might be better able to predict which, if any, orders placed whith Datek are more/less likely to get a good execution!

YOU WROTE:

One final note. I notice some posters are complaining about fills in fast running stocks. Unless you are on the floor or a market maker an internet broker, any internet broker, is two strikes against you before you even submit your order.

Craig, can you be a little more specific?
