Couldnt agree with you more. As a relative newbie investor I am amazed at the uselessness of expert advice from so called "analysts".
Downgrading a stock AFTER it misses estimates, helps almost no one. You dont need an "expert" for that! Recommending hopeless stocks over good stocks (like DELL of course!).

I have dropped ALL my subscriptions (except BusinessWeek) coz many say the same questionable things.

Check this out; There is an analyst who has rated DELL a "STRONG SELL" for the last 6 months right through the 150% uprun!!!!!!
Now THAT is an expert!
