Microsoft has a huge competitive edge in its markets, is gaining share in just about every area it competes, and has a monopoly on the key enabling technology of the Information Age (at least the client/server sector of the Information Age...which is the fastest-growing part of it by far).

The stock is richly valued, but the Street considers it a core holding, so it is a market bellweather.

I don't own it because I don't like the way they do business. It's a personal choice, but Microsoft is one helluva a money machine. It's probably at least a 10-bagger from here. Bill Gates will be worth half a trillion dollars some day if he isn't first huddled rocking in a corner somehere whispering, "Rosebud."*
