Palm's chief tells why she left
sjmercury.com

(excerpt)

Just how good is unknown because 3Com is stingy about discussing Palm's progress. On the one hand, unit shipments have exploded from 360,000 in 1996 to 1.2 million last year even as the company introduces new, higher-priced versions of the Pilot. On the other hand, copycats that use Windows CE software from Microsoft Corp. (Nasdaq, MSFT) loom as competitors once the ''palm-sized'' devices catch up to Palm in quality.

Dubinsky, who knows Palm's revenues, earnings and growth rates -- and therefore has a gauge on how Wall Street would value Palm -- suggests that ''3Com has a tremendously undervalued asset. I guess since we're not disclosing numbers, that's understandable.''
