True, but CPQ played a big role in their own problems
Agree 100% - they had a solo performance in their own problems. Some have pointed to the fact that IBM and HP also stuffed the channel in 4Q97 - but that really just gave CPQ an opportunity to clean house. Instead they pretty much burned the house down.

There overall execution has been superb, and I wouldn't be surprised if Dell eventually enters into the enterprise service business.
Dell is not just a superb execution machine - they are superb at picking products and markets where their unique model works.

I know they are looking hard at a service acquisition but I doubt that they will go there - a big fixed cost business would be pretty foreign to them. But I agree they have to do that to maintain momentum into the enterprise server market.
