Even though I have suggested that phone design is a second tier issue for the Q. Selling to its customers - the service providers, the ASIC and basestation components buyers et al are key. But I like your idea. It would be great fun to set up a Q design facility across the street from Nokia's main production plant or the headquarters in Finland. Sort of tit for tat re the Nokia ASIC production facility across from the Q in San Diego. :-) Chaz PS Note though the Q phone was sexy enough in design and the new one with no outside antenna sounds futuristic too. Just the plastics cracked and the wires didn't bend right. Not exactly design problems, no?

There is one small difference between the box and Pizza ananlogies. If you buy a Dell, CmpQ etc there is no carrying costs. If it was cheaper to run a dell over time for both customer and carrier then this would diferentiate it from its competition. Pizza, Computers, and Beta max, Newton etc didnt have any cost of operation advantage. In actuality they were disadvantage because price of technologies and software and accessories were more expencive. If CDMA didnt have a cost advantage
qualcoms future would be less bright. CDMA when at full tilt is cheaper for consumers and more cost effective for carriers. This and this alone is whille we will overcome GSM.

By "marketing" I really mean "sales"; as in direct sales, door to door sales etc.

A good sales team can literally sell anything. QCOM and other companies with a good product need sales people to push the goods. Industrial design is also important but if no one is buying the product you might as well have designed it yourself.
