To all-Just a couple of more thoughts on 7/16/98 telecon.
In dealing with Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) ,Lucent with 135,000 employees kicks out about 500 million per year in gross sales,Ciena with 1300 employees, kicked out 373 million in sales last year.( up 7 fold from year before)
Remember that DWDM works on the principal of different colors or wave lengths of light each carrying a signal, thus a single fiber-optic line can carry a bunch of signals, not just one.
Ciena signed 5 year contract to supply AT&T. They are working with Cisco on a optical networking forum (Lucent is not on the list).
Not too long ago, Ciena bought out a installer service co,a Calif. optical mfg. Co. and a Atlantic R&D Co.,all of whom come with it in the merger.
As part of the bargain we are also getting a narly, experienced 2nd in command,C.O.O.Pat Nettles.
Tellab's is determined to stay on top, buying hot technology, hot products and obtaining hot technical teams. Expenditures on the various telecommunication mfg. eqt. is expected to be $600.000,000,000 per year by 2000.
Well that's more than I Know. Keep your powder dry.
Best Wishes.
