re add-ons
The packaging looks great, whatever company they are going with
for the box design, they really turned out nice, just as good
as The Big One boxes. There is another add-on taking up shelf
space next to Alpha's (they kind of cluster them all around
MS F.S.) but it is not nearly as slick looking as Alpha's, of
course gameplay is what matters. When the sun stops shining
up here in Seattle maybe I'll get a chance to run them. I
suppose I'll have to get rudder pedals and a sidewinder pro
soon too.

The add ons will probably do okay, it's the kind of thing
people who already have FS get as a gift. There are probably
some people who notice the add on first, then grab FS too.
Certainly not the kind of thing you would expect to break
into the top ten--but I'll bet DC-3 does just as well as 747
did, and maybe Airbus+Air Force One together will match that
number. Second thought, DC-3 should do bettern than 747, I
just love seeing the DC-3 parked at the fly-in here each
summer--even a fellow like me who doesn't know his aircraft
too well, loves the sight of the DC-3. (Hey, is that one in
Lou Dobbs CNBC commercial??)

I would really like to see the stores pull out FS seperately,
away from the rest of the games, and surround it with the add
ons--CompUSA already has a stock with the sidewinders and W98,
and another stack of FS in the top 10 section.

Of course setting Alpha aside for a moment, I'd much rather
not have to worry about games, Elmo, Webfiler and Alpha5
keeping the company in the black...but rather have the
confidence that some internet or database company will
suddenly discover that XML is the next big thing, panic,
and gobble up the whole thing, that may have to wait
for Xmetal beta tho.

Since I got interested in this thing I've done a lot of
surfing around and the promise of XML is really quite
interesting--not only with regards to ecommerce. Why,
while doing keyword searches here on SI, I even circled
all the way around to a message posted about agent technology
on the General Magic thread. That was my biggest winner this
year, funny. Have to try and post fewer messages tho,
especially less seeding of other threads--after a while you
risk chasing your tail if people start echoing your thoughts.
