Y2k... The Extremes...

Sergio:

There are extreme positions ranging from the end of the world to Y2k is a hoax...

I believe a good deal of the software problems will be solved in the U.S.... The Embedded Chip solutions will be more elusive... I think big bucks will be spent to change a lot of chips to be on the safe side... Testing is very important... According to some articles I've read, initial testing shows no problem only to have the system fail... We'll need 6 to 9 months of testing to remove most of the uncertainty. The question is do we have those 6 to 9 months...

Many companies are targeting tests by the end of 1998... So, I think we'll begin to have some idea about Y2k readiness in the first 3 to 4 months of 1999...

It might not be a bad idea to have at least 3 months worth of food and water on hand just in case things get a bit hairy at the beginning of year 2000...
