Rubicon Minerals and Atna Resources Begin Exploration on Palmer Base
Metal Project

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--Rubicon Minerals Corporation (RMX.V)
and Atna Resources Ltd. (ATN.T) are pleased to announce that
fieldwork commenced on the Palmer base metal project on July 22nd
1998. The Palmer project, located 35 miles northwest of Haines,
Alaska, is close to tidewater and is accessible by the Haines
Highway and active logging roads. The target deposit at the
Palmer project is a Greens Creek-type massive sulphide deposit,
greater than 20 million tons in size. The project is located in
'elephant country' and hosts numerous high-grade base metal
showings within rocks that are the same age as the Greens Creek
and Windy Craggy deposits.

The 1998 field program will consist of:

- detailed geological mapping, relogging and additional sampling
of previous operator's drill core to define target areas

- a geophysical orientation survey (8 line miles) to provide
direct detection techniques over known massive sulphides and
flanking alteration

- rock sampling of showings to outline areas of high potential
based on metal and alteration patterns

- diamond drilling (approx. 3000 ft) commencing in early September
to test priority targets

This phase of exploration will be completed by the end of
September. All results will be released at the conclusion of the
program.

Over 25 high-grade base metal and/or barite showings occur on the
property over a trend of 5.7 miles. Significant results from past
work on the property are as follows:

Despite the presence of high-grade showings and spectacular
mineralized boulders, previous exploration on the project has been
limited and sporadic.
