I was just going through some prior SEC filings. This paragraph strikes me as funny:

" Other Compensation. The Company pays bonuses to its executive officers
only
under special circumstances. In 1997, the Company hired several executive
officers and paid each of them signing bonuses to encourage them to join the
Company and to compensate them for relocation expenses.

Chief Executive Officer Compensation. Mr. Bezos received $79,197 in
cash
compensation from the Company during 1997. Mr. Bezos' compensation was
considerably less than would have been warranted by the Company's
performance
during 1997 and Mr. Bezos' very significant contribution to that performance
as
President and Chief Executive Officer. However, due to Mr. Bezos'
substantial
ownership in the Company (approximately 41%), the Company did not provide
him
with additional compensation during 1997."
