Re: Run-up in price prior to last quarter

I have watched this stock in comparison to AMAT. The price of CYMI seems to consistently move to around 50-60% of the price of AMAT. Whenever, the price rises or falls out of this range, it is usually short lived. Such was the case with the last run-up prior to earnings. Currently, CYMI is just slightly more than 60% of the price of AMAT (30.5).

I sold some CYMI last week at 18.5, fully expecting the price to be at 17.5 last Friday. It seems that CYMI always closes on options expiration day at the closest strike price. I don't understand how the option's writers always seem to manipulate the stock price towards the strike price, but someone last week was reporting some large volume sells (maybe in an attempt to drive the price down to 17.5?).

So, I don't know what to think today. I see the price in comparison to AMAT as bearish, but its ability on Friday to not sink to 17.5 as bullish.
