CPQattack,

I understand how frustrating this could be, but believe me it happens with all types of machines. One unfortunate machine probably put together on a monday by a technician who could have partied a bit over the weekend like they say for lemon cars. One thing I know about compaq computers ever since I have started using personal computers at work for engineering designs, drafting, etc, etc, they just keep on ticking day in day out in an ordinary environment. The only time they are shut off is during machine upgrades where old cpq's are replaced with new cpq's. I can say this in all honesty that rarely do we ever have cpq hardware problem with all the cpq machines we use in the engineering and maintenance dept. for that matter throughout the corporations. Cpq makes solid machines that are extremely reliable. With all due respect to you,I say we put this matter to rest. peace and good luck.

Do you have a meter to check the voltages on the power connector?

CPQattack:

If indeed you need a new motherboard the wait may be longer than you think. The Presario 5600 w/P-II 400 is very new and the service people may not have replacements readily available.

Consider: My brother bought a Ford Contour shortly after it was first introduced (1995?). Had it 4 hours- started leaking trans fluid - trans line inlet to the radiator was cross threaded. Took 2 weeks+ to get a new radiator because the dealer could not get/did not have parts stocked because the car was so new. Just a thought.

Good Luck
