My notes:

The Good: Papken says that due to .18u shift rather than a shift to 300mm, SVG is positioned to be rewarded handsomely because SVG offers enabling technology for .18u. I think this is a direct quote: "We are sitting in the catbird's seat with our technology." Also, customers have liked what they see of the 200APS, and Papken expects additional orders. Finally, a cluster tool (Micrascan ___ and a 200APS) has been ordered by a Taiwanese foundry, WSMC.

The Bad: The industry downturn at the end of the June quarter was much deeper than anyone expected. The 50 test bays at SVGL are in place, but some don't have metrology and test equipment. Cycle time improvements are not as good as Russ Weinstock would like, but he sadi it was hard to achieve improvements when you're not building many machines. SVGL is continuing to build the optics components to reduce cycle times once the turn-around occurs.

The Ugly: Yen/Dollar exchange rate is causing severe price competition from Japan across all product lines.
