Lucent<LU.N> to bid A$100 mln for JNA -paper
SYDNEY, July 20 (Reuters) - U.S. communications equipment
group Lucent Technologies Inc was expected to bid A$100 million
in cash for Australia's JNA Telecommunications Ltd <JNA.AX>,
The Australian Financial Review newspaper said on Monday.
"The deal, which was believed to have followed a bidding
war between Lucent and another U.S. major, Cisco Systems Inc
<CSCO.O>, is expected to be for about A$3.50 a share," the
Financial Review said.
The report did not include sourcing.
JNA's shares closed up three cents at A$2.48 on Friday,
valuing the telecommunications equipment maker at A$73.66
million.
JNA's Manager of Telecommunications Marketing Bill Hayne
later told Reuters he could not comment on the report.
"As soon as we're in a position to make an announcement, we
will," he said.
JNA Managing Director Peter Davies was not available for
comment.

JNA <JNA.AX> says expects U.S. takeover bid
SYDNEY, July 20 (Reuters) - Telecommunications equipment
maker JNA Telecommunications Ltd said on Monday it had
requested a halt to trade in its shares because it expected to
receive a takeover bid from a major North American group.
Earlier on Monday The Australian Financial Review
newspaper said Lucent Technologies Inc <LU.N> was expected to
bid A$100 million or A$3.50 a share in cash for JNA.
JNA's shares closed up three cents at A$2.48 on Friday,
valuing the telecommunications equipment maker at A$73.66
million.
