Neal,

RE:Things will be flat for the next two(including this) quarters. Now the 64k question is, does flat mean 5 cents as projected for this quarter or does it mean 9 cents like last quarter?

I believe management said they expect flattish revenues as opposed to earnings, but they continue to increase spending on R&D, the new office in Singapore, and I'm sure many other things. They've offset some of this with small shutdowns/mandatory vacations(rumored but probably true), but you shouldn't expect an upside earnings surprise of any significance, since the semi-equipment environment has actually worsened since the last CC. Akins also indicated that visibility has been reduced to one quarter, from the previous six to nine months, in the CNBC interview.
Yes. I think that looking forward we see our business from a revenue perspective at this particular point and time relatively flat. Our customers are cutting back on their orders as they lose visibility from the chipmakers. Our visibility has shrunk from '97 to six or nine months down to a quarter to quarter type of visibility for this year.

I'm not expecting an earnings surprise or an increase in backlog just yet. The recent run up seemed to have occured in sympathy to semis and semi-equips in general rather than anything Cymer specific. I'm expecting the stock to trade with the sector until there is a backlog improvement which may still be a quarter or two away.

IMHO,

Bob
