3Com Megahertz 56K Global Modem PC Card

We thought the V.90 specification was finally here when vendors began sending
us V.90-capable modems for this story. But when we got the early firmware into
our labs, we found it still had quite a way to go. To complicate matters further,
the V.90 firmware versions we tested have all since been updated numerous
times, so our performance results are a snapshot of code under development
rather than a definitive indicator of the modems' performance.

Though most of these modems had problems attributable to early
V.90 code, the striking exception was the 3Com Megahertz 56K Global
Modem PC Card. It not only operated using V.90 firmware but
demonstrated peerless performance on our tests.
