BRUSSELS (July 20) XINHUA - Consumption by each European Union
citizen of fish and fish products each year ranks among the highest in
the world, second only to that in Iceland and Japan, Eurostat reported
Monday.

The Luxembourg-based statistical office said a European ate an average
of 22 kilograms of fish and fish products a year, and fish supplies
around six percent of the European's protein intake.

In Iceland and Japan, consumption of fish and fish products amounts to
93 kilograms and 68 kilograms a person per year, respectively.

The 15-member E.U. groups Belgium, Germany, Spain, France, Ireland,
Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Austria, Portugal, Finland, Greece,
Sweden, Denmark and Britain.

In the bloc, Portugal and Spain top the fish consumption scale with an
annual 57 kilograms and 39 kilograms for each person, while landlocked
Austria has the smallest per capita fish consumption of 10 kilograms.

Coastal Germany and the Netherlands are also low in fish consumption,
both with 12 kilograms per person annually.

Denmark is the largest producer of fish and fish products, with an
output amounting to a quarter of the E.U. total, followed by Spain and
Britain.

Nearly 85 percent of the catch of the bloc, together with non-members
Norway and Iceland, comes from the northeast Atlantic, while around six
percent is from the Mediterranean and the Black Sea. Enditem

Hey Bob

Were you watching CNBC stock pickers a moment ago when a caller asked about Zapata

His advise was to be very careful with a big grin on his face and then said these guys are fish farmers.

Not good for the image of Zapata

Good luck and good trading
