Lucent to bid A$100 mln for JNA -paper
SYDNEY, July 20 (Reuters) - U.S. communications equipment group Lucent
Technologies Inc was expected to bid A$100 million in cash for
Australia's JNA Telecommunications Ltd (JNA.AX), The Australian
Financial Review newspaper said on Monday.
''The deal, which was believed to have followed a bidding war between
Lucent and another U.S. major, Cisco Systems Inc (CSCO - news), is
expected to be for about A$3.50 a share,'' the Financial Review said.

The report did not include sourcing.

JNA's shares closed up three cents at A$2.48 on Friday, valuing the
telecommunications equipment maker at A$73.66 million.

JNA's Manager of Telecommunications Marketing Bill Hayne later told
Reuters he could not comment on the report.

''As soon as we're in a position to make an announcement, we will,'' he
said.
