Off-topic . . . Potential new biometric market:

According to today's NY Times, the Clinton administration is mulling over whether and how to have a common patient ID for use in a "portable" health system:

"Others have suggested a composite number, consisting of the patient's
date of birth, the latitude and longitude of the hometown and some
additional digits. Still others say the identifier should not be a number at all
but rather a "biomedical marker," like a thumb print or an electronic scan
of the retina -- an option that is considered remote."

This will be going out for public comment. I'll try to track it so anyone who wants can give comments along the lines of, "try fingerscanning with IDX equipment."
