Iridium and G* "Break-even" numbers Jul 16, 1998 Readware writes: ---------------------------------------------------------- In response to the email: the break-even numbers I cited for Iridium versus G* at full operating capacity are those given at the CE Unterberg, Towbin 5-6 March 1998 Satellite Industry Conference in New York City at the Grand Hyatt Hotel by Iridium World CFO Leo Mondale (for the Iridium break-even number) and Globalstar CFO Nicholas Morren (for the Globalstar break-even number). The minutes of usage per year cited are those given by the just named respective representatives of Iridium World and G*. The numbers are not ours. I did not mean to give the impression that they were. Our break-even for Iridium is $1.53/minute [ vs. their stated $1.40 (we include cost of replacement sats to be launched within the next 5 years in the operating cost number)], and about $.064 for G* (which has no replacement costs). The G* CFO stated their break-even is just under $.07.minute For the time being we will defer to the company's publicly stated numbers as to their break-even. --------------------------------------------------------- Subject: Re: Iridium and G* "Break-even" numbers Date: Fri, Jul 17, 1998 08:55 EDT From: Readware Message-id: <1998071712550300.IAA10769@ladder01.news.aol.com> In the Unterberg Grand Hyatt Brochure, Nicholas Morren is listed as the Globalstar CFO and Executive V-P. ---------------------------------------------------------- Subject: Re: Iridium and G* "Break-even" numbers Date: Fri, Jul 17, 1998 11:58 EDT From: Readware Message-id: <1998071715584500.LAA08547@ladder03.news.aol.com> You are correct-- Mr. Morren is the Treasurer of Globalstar, not its CFO. ---------------------------------------------------------- Looks as though there is a lot of difference between the respective breakevens. But as DragonFly says, it would be nice to see FDX circuits per satellite x 0.3 [usability factor = not very usable over empty places] x 60 minutes per hour x 24 hours per day x 365 days per year. The circuits can never be fully used - there simply aren't enough yachts in the Atlantic or Pacific to keep all the circuits busy even if calls are free. Same even over busy China - free calls at 3 am won't fill the FDX circuits. Maurice PS: ***off topic*** Mike, yes thanks, got your check [cheque] for 100 shares and have sent stock certificates. Anyone else want some? IPO after we initial shareholders have got a near commercial model and we can charge big heaps for new shareholders - probably April 2000. Oblate certificates sound good - thanks for the suggestion [3D oblate certificates]. Being a quark is good - you are many of them. Being unquarkian is bad as you would be considered a missing person. I was not calling you quarkian. Although you are. We can reverse spin you! Are your neutrinos a tight-wad?
