Tony - Re: "AMD & Motorola

I listened to the conference call and, despite the flatteries, it looks like a technology exchange ONLY arrangement.

AMD will get copper technology AND MAYBE 0.12 (Not a mis-type) micron process technology from Motorola.

Motorola wil get AMD's low voltage flash technology - to be used in embedded processors.

Sanders indicated that the year 2000 was the target date for product to come from this arrangement - from AMD's Dresden fab.

Surprisingly, Sanders said that the original K7 - on a 0.18 micron process with ALUMINUM INTERCONNECT - would not come out of Dresden until the END OF 1999 ! SURPRISE !

So, AMD's current process development does indeed appear to be slipping ! Maybe they just can't afford to keep up with the Intel's !
