ES: Thanks for your comments. You may have hit upon something that has puzzled me for a very long time. Why hasn't Microsoft or one of the other majors gone after the largest emerging market in the United States, if not the whole World? Namely, the investment markets with hundreds of millions of private investors in Stocks and Mutual Funds, starving for better and cheaper instant information.

Right now, most of us have to pay through the nose for real time data and if you want to have a quality program for analytics, you've got to shell out big bucks for that too. Is the merging of software and data-vending inevitable, in my opinion absolutely. If MSFT doesn't do it, someone else will.

The Software end of this game has been enormously lucrative for those who have designed and built powerful trading programs over the last 15 years, but their business could be about to be threatened by the mass marketing of cheaper, better and more functional material.

Alternatively, a buyout by or merger with the likes of Microsoft, would potentially add huge value to the data vending end of the spectrum, especially with all the potential future applications that can be envisioned, in a World ever more dependant on instant information availability in any place and at any time.

Bill Gates has demonstrated on many occasions his knack for buying out of favor and sometimes grossly undervalued assets. He was shrewd enough to invest big in Cable when no-one wanted to hear the word even mentioned and managed to deftly hedge his bets on the potential of dovetailing his satellite system with an existing wide pipe national infrastructure already in place.

It would have to make perfect sense for him to acquire one of the largest financial content providers, especially now that there are so many re-sellers willing to buy wholesale for private label re-distribution, who may require value add ons that a company like Microsoft is so adept at providing all the way down through the ranks.

In this fast developing arena, which they seem to be meeting head on, DBCC would have to be seen as sitting pretty, as sooner or later the rest of the market begins to figure this out.

This has the potential to become a very hot emerging arena,
