Plz educate this illiterate investor: How much will SEG stock benefit when software division is spun off. I want some numbers. How can SEG help prop up the stock by offering the IPO??? Maxtor IPO is just around the corner. can anyone shed light on the impact of that IPO as well??

-humbly yours...

Stitch,
Actually, Luzco was initially hired to develop the software division. Shugart saw that SEG's business was going to throw off more cash than could possibly be invested back into the drive business, and looked around for other ways to invest it. Or perhaps it was Luzco's idea in the first place, and he sold Al on it. I don't know which way it went, but that is what he was hired to do.

So Al is leaving. Good grief, if was just last year that he said he was "having too much fun" running SEG, and wouldn't retire for a long while. And was voted "Executive of the Year" by some technology group in Silly Valley, as I recall. What a difference a year makes! Personally, I wish him well. This year was a difficult one for everyone in DD business except for the Surprise Guys of Fuji and Maxtor, to put it mildly.
