Qwest Secures $85 Million in Broadband Sales

DENVER--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 21, 1998--Qwest today announced is has signed two broadband capacity
agreements totaling approximately $85 million.

Under the terms of the separate agreements, Qwest will provide Digital Broadcast Network Corporation (DBN) -- a new
multimedia communications company -- and FaciliCom International (FCI) -- a fast growing global communications
provider -- broadband capacity on the Qwest nationwide Macro Capacity(SM) Fiber Network.

''The superior technology and capabilities of the Qwest Macro Capacity Fiber Network continue to attract top-notch
carriers, such as DBN and FaciliCom,'' said Gregory M. Casey, senior vice president of broadband capacity for Qwest.
''Qwest is pleased to provide the capacity to DBN as it implements its nationwide multimedia strategy, and to FaciliCom
to meet its international and domestic capacity needs.''

''We are pleased and excited to work with Qwest in the development of what promises to be one of the most robust,
fully-featured networks in the country,'' said Mark Ivie, DBN's senior vice president of voice services. ''When we
evaluated our options, we came to the conclusion that Qwest's fiber optic SONET backbone offers DBN the greatest
market reach and the most reliability for our network services. Qwest provides DBN with a strategic element of security --
a self-healing fiber optic backbone capable of instantaneous rerouting in the event of a fiber cut.''

''Our agreement with Qwest signals the emergence of FCI as a powerhouse in the new global telecommunications
environment,'' said Walt Burmeister, president of FaciliCom International. ''FCI, with the addition of Qwest's domestic
fiber capacity, offers carriers a truly global service with complete end-to-end transmission connectivity comparable to any
other network system in the world.''

The Qwest Macro Capacity Fiber Network

Qwest's planned domestic 18,449 mile network will serve over 130 cities, which represent approximately 80 percent of
the data and voice traffic originating in the United States, upon its scheduled completion in the second quarter of 1999.

To date, more than 8,800 miles of the Qwest Macro Capacity Fiber Network are activated, including the transcontinental
segment that extends from Los Angeles to Sacramento and across to New York. Qwest is also extending its network
1,400 miles into Mexico with completion slated for late 1998 and has transatlantic capacity to serve Europe.

The Qwest Macro Capacity Fiber network is designed with a highly reliable and secure bi-directional, line switching
OC-192 SONET ring architecture. Upon completion, the network will offer a self-healing system that provides the
ultimate security and reliability by allowing instantaneous rerouting in the event of a fiber cut.

Tweaker.. as I recall, I predicted that Qwest would hit 45 by mid
August.. 46 3/4 and it's not even August.. growing quicker than I
expected.. Lucent is at 106.. going up today as well. Just wait
till next week when last years financial report is due to be released
(July 27/28th).. better than expected return!.. plus the new 85M
contract that was just signed helps! I like working for Qwest, but
going to relocate back to Dallas in two weeks or so..and go over to
WorldCom.. See what I can do there! :-)
