Elmer - Re: "Weren't they also working on an operating system? Was it "pink"?"

Very close !

APple was working on "pink" prior to the PowerPC collaboration. Once the PowerPC was agreed upon, "pink" software engineers and IBM software engineers were collected into a new company called TALIGENT.

Taligent was going to incorporate all the teriffic ideas in "pink" and with the unbeatable Apple and IBM geniuses, they were going to produce an Operating System for PowerPC that was going to put Microsoft's lights out.

A second company was also formed - Kaleida. It also was composed of Apple and IBM engineers. It was set up as some MultiMedia BoonDoggle.

Both of these ventures chewed up MILLIONS AND MILLIONS of dollars, CHEWED up engineers and CHEWED UP TIME.

I recollect th ePresident of one of these - an IBM guy - dropped dead one day while jogging in the Bay area.

Another President quit over STock/IPO considerations.

It was a Cupertino Zoo/Side Show for years.

These ventures were shut down after about 4 years - I don't know of any single piece of useable software that came put of them.

Maybe AMD and Rotomola will have better luck.

They could hardly have worse luck.
