Here is yet some more evidence that there is great money to be had in natural gas production in west virginia. This link:

eri2000.com

Is the home page for Equitable Resources (big producer in wv and appalachian basin). Download their 1997 10-K (takes about 25 minutes) and look on Page 38 for the financial results from natural gas production. They are showing an operating income of 28% of revenues. Not too shabby.

But here is the best:

statoilenergy.com

StatOil (used to be Eastern States Energy Group (old longs may remember my discussing them as successfully going after properties abandoned by the majors in WV). In exploration and production they have operating income of a whopping 47% of revenues.

BTW, it looks like $2.80 - $2.90 / scf was the going rate for natural gas in 1997 in west virginia.

Bottom line - if these Stagg reports show substantial natural gas reserves, we are looking pretty in WV. Infrastructure is already there. Three major pipeline companies bidding up the price. Big storage areas nearby (PA & NY). And a ready made market up the east coast.

Gettin' "Jacked"

Eric

Robert;
I have to take exception to your comments. I am a long holder of MTEI (just increased my holdings by another 12,250 shares yesterday).
I have NEVER given credence to the naysayers and the more negative information, suppositions, and innane questions they post, the better I feel about my investment. I do NOT consider myself an "idiot" for being long, so lets not make blanket statements that apply to only a handful.

I've respected and enjoyed your posts in the past and believe you are a valuable asset to the thread. Please do not let what others do affect your attitude as they will continue to display a lack of self control and respond to the bashers.

This is JMHO

Scott

Robert, I gave up weeks ago on reading the thread. I bookmarked you and Eric and go from there. I hope you continue posting pertinent info on this stock as I'm in for the long haul.

Ok, Bob, here's a question that I have trouble understanding here. I understand from comments that MTEI has no interest in developing any of the coal reserves themselves. Presumably they are most interested in the gas reserves. From the header here of this thread:

The U.S.G.S. estimates also indicate in excess of 2 billion cubic feet of coal methane gas. This gas currently sells in excess of $3.00/MCF 1000 cubic feet. In most cases this gas is subject to an alternate fuel tax credit in excess of $3 MCF, for an estimated value of $5/MCF valued at $10,000,000.

Overlooking for a moment the lower estimate of current prices for this gas given recently and even accepting that they could even net the $10M, that seems to provide only a base benefit to the bottom line of $10M spread over the next several years.

It seems that if they are not going to develop the coal themselves, they would at best be getting just a portion of the profits that a coal production concern could generate. This kind of revenue spread over 70M shares, and several years, looks a little thin. Or do you see more revenue opportunities? Deals being offered to them every day generally means that they have to pay something to get something, so where is that money coming from or is it coming from new shares being issued? I believe someone said they don't have a lot of cash.
