Castle Creek is not the Anti-Christ, as some investors are currently imagining. Which is not to say that we shouldn't give the Devil his due ;-). For instance, why convert and dump when there's a more Machievellan strategy, i.e., pressure the stock by shorting at opportune times and then having an endgame that allows you to cover the shorts with stock you've just converted from Preferred Series C that you owned? This way you bury the body smoothly. Oh, but of course that means the short position could disappear overnight without the hoped for squeeze by your enemies (the longs). And it might just coincide with the good news expected in the fall, so those extra shares you own beyond your short position will make money as the price heads north. Sneaky? Sure. Wish I'd thought of it first and had the money to lend PARS. Very nice to make money coming and going. Don't forget, without Castle Creek (or some group just like them), the doors to Pharmos might be closed now. Can't imagine many groups lining up to lend biotech companies with 10 years of red ink (as most are) and a $72 million accumulated deficit, any money. You know you can't drill oil wells without drilling muds to lubricate the drill bit and pipe. Just think of Castle Creek and its kind as the drilling muds of Wall Street ;-) ----------------------------------------------------------- Today I spoke to PARS and came away with the following understanding: That BOL is really scrambling to finish the contracts for the co-partner for Alrex which will market to GPs and allergists. Meanwhile, BOL is already marketing to HMOs. There's every hope that we'll be ready for upcoming allergy season and also that these two products will have the company in positive cash flow in 1999. Rumors that PARS may try to go it alone in the HU-211 Phase III trials are false. Management knows they're expensive and is looking for partner. I'm checking into the lower dosage question about Phase II and will report back when I get an answer. --Ariella P.S. Don't believe any hysterical comments about the warrants. They can't even be put on the table till 1999. "Surfing" and SEC documents don't really mesh. They require deep, slow thinking.
