I agree. PMCS is not (and never has been) a commodity type semi company.

<PMCS is really a semiconductor software company. Their customers design their systems around PMCS components. Those design wins last for the lifetime of the product.>

Most of the components that PMCS designs are register based.
A reset configures the device in a default state. There is a uP interface to the address/data and control lines which allow the registers to be individually addressed and programmed. A firmware update to the processor can be made to change the programming of these devices. A competitors product in some cases can be substituted for a PMCS device with a simple firmware update. There is no reason to do this unless their is an advantage to using a competitors product
such as pricing or performance.
