>>> Sounds like Pete's customers are trying an end run, all the while telling him:
"Great job, thanks for letting us do the marketing, no need for CKFR to be out front, keep building the pipeline, we'll be there to use it...blah blah blah"

This looks like a distinct possibility.

e-banking without the banks, which hold all the information that makes it worthwhile, is NOTHING! But I wouldn't get too shaken up by this, it' years away at least!

Not to be late in this conversation, but just my 2 cents on E-Check.

I personally think E-check is a joke and will not work, it is a flawed process. It is designed around the banks current systems and not the consumer, and in reality can only be used for business to business transactions.

E-check is like upgrading of the pony express to the telegram, an improvement but not a real answer to the problem. CheckFree is a whole new system, like the Telephone. Apples and Oranges I know, but they are both fruit.

As far as the banks go, each have their own agenda. As long as NetBank and CompuBank keep chugging away, the big banks will have to act. The question is when and where.

CKFR better cozy up to a "portal" or two, just to let the banks know that two can play the game.

IMO CheckFree needs someone like NetBank to cozy up to the portals, with a button right next to E*Trade stamped "Pay Bills". And when you click on it, it takes you directly to the NetBank Website. The key is to have a real Bank do the 'Button', not CheckFree.
